George Zimmerman trial

I don't think one 'thinks through' their options in these cases - they just react. But in imagining a scenario like this - for me personally - I'm not going for the gun unless I know with certainty that I can get to the weapon - point and shoot it. I'm not going to go for it in a close quarters struggle. I have more confidence in my ability to get out of a physical conflict than I do about being dexterous enough to draw a holstered weapon and shoot it while enduring blows to the head, laying on the ground. The bullet would have a good chance of finding me as well as my target. My goal would be to stop or interrupt the blows and get off of the ground first.
Having watched about a million classes and sparring matches at my son's Dojo, I have a great deal of respect for the damage that can be done with just one or two blows from a hand. If anyone in my son's class is sitting on someone's chest with the intent of doing harm, no one is getting up after the first blow. Of course he could also disarm me easily, but I would feel the pistol was my only chance of survival. I'm also female and little, so I feel my chances of getting up off the ground would be slim to none in a situation like that. I know some self defense techniques, but I doubt my ability to get out of that scenario. If I were carrying a weapon, I would know how to use it. I would try to get the gun out and shoot in one motion. I wouldn't have just shot once, though, I would have emptied the gun.

Zimmerman got a tour of the place that manufactures the gun he used to murder Trayvon? Really?!

I for one would have a hard time living with the fact that a series of events that I initiated ended in the violent death of a young person.

Probably. So he should go on a diet, grow a beard, move 1000 miles away and lay low. A weapon is what got him into this mess in the first place.

Yes.

Ugh, the news just displayed a picture of Zimmerman smiling for the camera and shaking hands with a gun shop owner. He really does seem to be enjoying his infamy, what a scumbag.

Well we're even now. Black kids have killed a couple white guys in the past few days. I mean if we want to make everything about race . . .

I agree.

We're "even now"?!

FWIW, although I am not generally a fan of trying juveniles as adults, I think an exception should be made in cases where they kill because they're "bored", or for racial reasons.

I was just responding to all the "black kid" comments. I don't think anything is even now but some people seem to want to make everything about race.

I think anyone over the age of 12 or 13 should be tried as an adult. Sorry but if you don't know by 15, 16, 17 that murder is wrong there's no hope for you. I am so sick of hearing about these how "good" these "kids" are.

Even though I find the "we're even now" comment very problematic, to say the least, Black people would need to kill a hell of a lot more white people to "get even".

What's your thinking behind this statement?
