  1. Vegan
I first began a vegan diet in 2020 after listening to Joey Carbstrong on YouTube. Although I had adopted veganism for all the right reasons, i.e. for the sake of the animals, I gave into desire and fell off the wagon in 2022. I stayed non-vegan until last year when I resumed veganism, presumably after watching some slaughterhouse clips. I'm still vegan, and truly believe I was one from 2020 to 2022 as well.

I kind of look at it like this. Veganism is an ethics, so what we do as a result is our call. So long as we are genuine in wanting to live according to the principles, then I think that's all anyone can ask of us. We all get to make our own decisions. So, if someone "falls off the wagon", it doesn't mean they have to abandon the principles entirely.

Even if that someone eats some meat, there's no reason to simply abandon caring, so source that meat as much in alignment with vegan ethics as possible. And you can still refuse to support animal use in entertainment, look for cruelty free products, sign petitions, support animal sanctuaries and advocacy organisations, the list goes on!

Well done IndianVegan I think it is great that you are vegan again; it is good that you were vegan at that time and it's good that you're vegan now.

Excellent, @IndianVegan ! I've seen people abandon vegetarianism or veganism, and they seemed to make excuses not to give it another try. But you're getting back on track. If you find that there is a particular thing that's giving you trouble, people here might have the same problem sometimes, and might be able to tell you what worked for them.

I’ve got to the point where the idea of eating fetuses (eggs) or animal flesh (meat) totally repulses me. However, I haven’t completely given up milk products. While I rarely have ice-cream anymore, I do enjoy brownies and candy bars that probably contain some milk. Anyway, veganism isn’t about perfection.

@IndianVegan As I understand it, eggs don't have baby chicks growing inside them unless you buy them from a farm that has free-range hens. I think most eggs come from operations which have only hens- not a rooster in sight. But of course, the welfare issues for the hens themselves are still a problem.

I think it's great that you are trying to be vegan.
But I don't call myself vegan here, as I don't always check beers and wines and some of my opinions do not align with veganism.
But insofar as diet is concerned, meat, eggs and animal milk are 100% no-nos

If I purposely kept eating milk products, I definitely wouldn't consider myself vegan.

While I don't touch meat, I do indulge in sweets and, unfortunately, all the sweets here have some milk or eggs in them. So I guess technically I'm only a vegetarian.

You're right. Only fertilized eggs have fetuses inside them.

Sweet things were a problem for me, also. I got a rude dose of extra motivation a few years ago, when I was found to be pre-diabetic. Type 2 Diabetes runs in my family. My diet is high in carbohydrates to begin with (as most vegetarian or vegan diets are)- and I realized that if I wanted to be healthy, I'd have to cut way back on those sugary non-vegan foods. I did that, and my last two checkups showed I wasn't pre-diabetic anymore- my HbA1c levels are back in the normal range.
