Hey,
I'm new to this forum. I have a little problem since a few months now.

I was out eating with two friends and my twin sister. And suddenly my friend says out of nowhere: "I really don't understand why people would be vegetarian/vegan. Why do we care so much about animal rights? Shouldn't we look at human rights first?"

And it really really bothered me. It came out of nowhere and it felt so disrespectful. Even if she was the most gentle soul towards people, I would already have thought it's weird, but she is definitely not. It's not the first time she says something very conservative, but this felt really disrespectful to me specifically. I would never say something like that to someone who loves animals so much.

After that I told her it was fine, but actually I'm not fine with it. And so I stopped talking to her. I would still answer when she texts me, but I don't give much in return. And she has asked me to meet up to talk about this, but honestly, I don't care anymore. I am not a very social person anyway and I don't need much social contact, so I think that's also a reason that I don't want to talk about this with her. I just don't have the energy.

My twin sister however is also friends with her, and if she wouldn't have told me she wants me to be friends again with her, then I wouldn't be doubting it right now.

Is this friend still good enough to be a friend of mine? What should I do? I'm not going to win a discussion to her anyway.

Hello there @TVH and Welcome!
It seems as though many people are not able to understand that we are capable of supporting Both animal rights and welfare as well as human rights and welfare… In fact I find that most Vegans are far more aware, caring and supportive of human rights than the average omni…

Whether you remain friends with her is up to you… Does she have other qualities that you appreciate? Do you enjoy spending time with her?

If I were in your situation - I think that I would meet up with her particularly if she wants to discuss what she said… I would give her the opportunity to explain… Perhaps she had seen something about human suffering that upset her? Who knows? You won’t know why she said what she did until she explains it…
Meeting with her would give you the chance to decide whether she is someone who you want to be friends with, regardless of whether your sister is friends with her or not…
