Did you know what the relative child poverty rate is in the UK? I.e. the rate of children being brought up in relative poverty?
Relative poverty is defined as household income below 60% of the country's median income, and is considered a more useful statistic than absolute poverty.
It's now at 31% in the UK. This is the highest level since comparative records began in 2002. That seems shocking to me. Almost one in every three children. And the UK is supposed to be one of Europe's leading economies. How can it be a "leading economy" and yet deliver so poorly for its population? Perhaps it's only "leading" if you look at misleading numbers ...?
