My mom made awesome mincemeat cookies. I didn't know about the meat in it.
Edit: looks like Robertson's and None Such are meat free.

Similar...it was a different brand. I think it was something like None such? Not even sure if it was vegan or not. It was way before I even knew what vegan was.
We always used NoneSuch for our mince pies. It came in a little carton- a very dry brick of solid dried fruit, spices, and sugar. You had to add water to it (in addition to the extras we used).

We never had mincemeat pies as kids, but at Thanksgiving when I was older, at my sister-in-law's parents' house, we had the kind with ground meat in them. I didn't really like them, but I think I would like the meatless one. Her parents were from Canada, so I'm thinking maybe it was a French-Canadian version.
None Such definitely had/has beef. My grandmother always had the small box of condensed mincemeat on the shelf and only made it at Christmas. I took the box after she died. I was vegetarian then, and didn't look at it till the holidays came. First time I realized it had meat.

I've never seen boxed minced beef with fruit. It must be an American speciality. Anyway, the above recipe is for sure, a modern version called mincemeat (contains only dried fruit and spices) and has no flesh!

Indeed, it's delicious but does require quite a lengthy cooking time. Shop bought ones aren't too bad and I usually like to add some finely chopped sauteed apples to the mixture.
