Ackee is amazing 😍

Hi everyone, I tried Akcee the other day, it’s a Jamaican bean that is creamy and buttery but has the consistency and similar taste to scrambled eggs!! I would definitely recommend it, I always feel that something is missing with a cooked breakfast since ditching eggs, was thing that it could be used to make a quiche as well!

It says it's a fruit - in fact it's the national fruit of Jamaica. Also:

The fruit is pear-shaped and has 3 lobes (2 - 4 lobes are common).[9] When it ripens, it turns from green to a bright red to yellow-orange, and splits open to reveal three large, shiny black seeds, each partly surrounded by soft, creamy or spongy, white to yellow flesh — the aril having a nut-like flavor and texture of scrambled eggs.[1][6]

There are 48 different cultivars which are grouped into "cheese" and "butter" types. There is also a section about toxicity which is interesting!

Missus Summer says she's seen in Tesco here in the UK.

As it is Jamaica's national fruit, I can imagine you'd find it in grocery shops that have a Caribbean food section.

I've never heard of this fruit before. It's a typical Caribbean treat.

I love ackee. They sell it around where I live in shops as it is multicultural here. I have it on toast like scrambled eggs or in rice with vegetables and beans.
