well I think generally, if two words are consistently used together, first they become hyphenated, and then they become one word...I'm not sure if cream is used so much these days anyway, in dairy ice cream.

I have seen how they used to make ice cream. On big estates, they collected the ice during the winter and stored it in the basement in straw, into the summer, and then they put it in a bowel, crushed up and then put a bowl of sugary cream in that, and then add salt to the ice. The ice melts because of the salt, and that cause energy to go from the cream to the salty ice, and so the cream freezes.
