I just read "Dissection of a Murder" which is a debut novel by Jo Murray. It is being adapted for season two of the TV series "Presumed Innocent." This is a legal thriller taking place in the UK so the legal terms are a bit different and it was interesting learning about the court system there. It's about a young woman defense attorney defending a murder suspect. The prosecutor is her older more experienced husband. This book has a lot of twists and the end is mind blowing. I hope Ms Murray writes another book soon.

I couldn't remember who mentioned that book to me and it was you! I thought it was someone from one of my book groups. I just bought that today.

only 150 pages left.... trying to drag it out

well, this is a first for me - I finished For Whom the Belle Tolls yesterday and went right back to the beginning and started again - I am not going to read the whole thing again just up to a certain part that I have in mind - there are very few books that I read more than once and never have I started over immediately - The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery is the book that I have read the most - my honey wants to read this one so I am likely going to buy it and also a couple for family and friends (not my family as there is too much "intimacy")

I finally finished "The Secret of Secrets" by Dan Brown. I don't remember if I read "The Da Vinci Code" or just saw the movie but it was a long time ago. I haven't read any other books by him. This new one came up on one of my suggested for you lists and sounded interesting. This was not a fast fun read. It is about a CIA project on brain implants and goes into a LOT of technical and medical detail. There is conspiracy and murder and great descriptions of Prague where it takes place. It's a history lesson as well. It was a pretty good thriller but I just didn't really connect with the main characters. I probably won't read anything else by Mr. Brown. LOL

I remember all the buzz/raving about The Da Vinci Code when it came out. I finally got around to reading it and was like, meh. I found Brown's writing very pedestrian. I haven't read anything else by him.

Oh funny!!! I didn’t realise it was you that mentioned that book too! My husband bought it to read on holiday. He thought it was about 8/10.

I read another David Rosenfelt yesterday - Citizen K-9 - excellent as always.

Also started Mate by Ali Hazelwood - a Were / Vampire etc type of book.

I have just finished "Under Story" by Chloe Benjamin. This is a new book that was a Good Morning America Book Club pick. It is one of the weirdest books ever! It is very heavy on science information especially the study of mushrooms and physics. There are environmental issues mentioned as well in this sci-fi tale of an "antiuniverse" in which time goes backwards. There is a lot going on in this 500 page book and it is pretty mind boggling.

Last Sunday I bought and read "Fragments" by Heraclitus. It is a light book since it has parallel Greek/English text (and I don't read Greek, as much as I would like to). It claims to contain all known fragments that remain of Heraclitus' writings. It's not much. For those who don't know, he's the "you never step in the same river twice" guy who lived in Ephesus around 2500 years ago. He also has some more interesting things to say, such as:

"Tainted souls who try
to purify themselves with blood
are like the man
who steps in filth and thinks
to bathe in sewage."

"Stupidity is better kept a secret than displayed."

"All people ought to know themselves and everyone be wholly mindful."

"Goat cheese melted in warm wine congeals if not well stirred." (2500 year old culinary advice?)

"The cosmos works by harmony of tensions, like the lyre and the bow."

"Silence, healing."

The fine art of lying by Alexandria Andrews. I'm kind of bored of it already. Only like 60 pages in.

I read "Under the Falls" by Richard Russo. This is the first book I have read by this author even though he is popular and has won a Pulitzer and had movies and TV shows made from his books. I recorded it on Goodreads and was surprised that the reviews were not that great. I liked it and thought it was a good character driven drama about families and friends in a small town. It is about Tyler who left town at 18 without telling his best friends goodbye. He became a rock star and never went back until 18 years later. Lots of drama as he is not welcomed with open arms.

I finished "New York to Dallas" by J.D. Robb today. It is one of the "In Death" series books. Always a good thriller and lots of emotion with the characters who I love. There are so many books in this series!
