Literature What are you currently reading?

Today I finished "A Gift Before Dying" by Malcolm Kempt. This is a new book and the first novel by this author. This is a very dark crime story that takes place in the Arctic in December when it is literally always dark. There is a lot about the Inuit people of the area and the hardships people who live there must endure. The main character is a police officer who has been exiled from "down South" (Alberta). He is not a very likable person who is filled with guilt from his past and drinks excessively. There is some supernatural aspects and violence. I can't say I really liked this book much, but I finished it.

I read a fun fantasy called "The Astral Library" by Kate Quin. It answers the question "would you jump into a book and become part of the story?" The Astral Library does just that giving sanctuary to people who are desperately trying to escape something in their lives. But there is something sinister going on with the Library Board and the library comes under attack. Fun read about a young woman who has never felt wanted by anyone in her life.

Yesterday I read "You Belong Here" by Megan Miranda. This is a page turner that I couldn't put down so I read the whole book at one sitting. It is a thriller about a single mother who will stop at nothing to protect her daughter when the consequences of her own actions from 20 years ago catch up with her. Really good! I will definitely look for more books by this author.

midnight at the blackbird cafe by heather webber - I have read a number of her books now and enjoy them so much, have been waiting a while for this one

I also read this straight through yesterday and it was awesome. So immersed that I did not go and do the grocery stockpile shopping I was going to do...

Started now on the 3rd of the Key trilogy.
