Today I read book two in the Key Trilogy called "Key of Knowledge". This featured the librarian in our group of women. Another fun read with romance and the battle of good vs evil. Nora Roberts' books are predicable but still enjoyable with interesting characters.

Finished book three, "Key of Valor," today. This is my favorite of the three stories. The last key is assigned to Zoe, a single mom who had her son, Simon, when she was just 16. She is fiercely independent and doesn't trust easily. Not only is her quest for the key, but to grow as a woman and find love. I loved her and Simon is a real joy. This book is one of my favorite Nora Roberts books!

Today I read something a little different, "Something in the Water" by Phyllis R. Dixon. This is about a water crisis, much like Detroit that we all heard about. Some of the incidents in the book were drawn from real life events. A Black family relocates from California back to the husband's home town in Texas. Billie, the wife, has lost her job in Oakland, their son is in re-hab for opiate addiction and their daughter is in the military. Cole, the husband, thinks they will have a great new start in this small mostly Black town. It is a huge change for Billie who grew up in California and never lived anywhere else. She is also more "upper class" and has been an activist her whole life. She finds out about the terrible water issues and is determined to do something about it causing lots of problems. Pretty good read and very informative about water problems. The parts about her son were kind of hard as it brought back memories for me. I may look for other books by this author.

Read "Dead Man Blues" by S.D. House yesterday. This is a crime thriller that is a little different as it takes place in 1955 in Tennessee. Very historical about the times around the Kentucky/Tennessee border when a lake was created by damming a river and destroying many homes in the process. Corruption is rampant and investigating murder in those days was a tedious process. Very interesting. And of course there is the racism of the times.

I have discovered another lawyer series by David Rosenfelt. I chose "Dogged Pursuit" in the new book section because it has dogs and is a prequel to a series. I will definitely read more in this series as I enjoyed this book a lot. It is about a young lawyer who has changed his practice from prosecutor to defense lawyer. He accepted a client accused of car bombing his boss and 2 other employees after he was fired from his job. The dog in the story is Tara, a Golden Retriever, he adopted from the shelter. Told in first person, there is lots of humor. Good fast read with murder and corporate corruption.
