This is what's known as an equivocation Fallacy (The Bait-and-Switch)
You are using the literal meaning of the noun religion and equating to the colloquial meaning of the adverb religiously.
It's a little like the non-vegans who say "Almond drink isn't milk" when it clearly defines plant based milks as such as one definition of milk in the dictionary.
Or a more silly equivalence...
"He isn't very bright is he?"
"No, maybe we should give him a lamp"
