In the 5 months of being vegan, I've saved approx.
165,000 gallons of water,
4,500 square feet of forest land,
150 animal lives,
6,000 pounds of grain and
3,000 pounds of Co2.

How cool is that!!!????

One and a half years vegan...

Gallons of water: 599,500
Sq.ft of Forest: 16,350
Animal Lives: 545
lbs of Grain: 21,800
lbs of Co2: 10,900

According to a vegetarian calculator I can also add... (one and a half years vegetarian - only one month as lacto-ovo the rest just as lacto- but I don't think that counts below)...

Animal Lives: 303
lbs of CO2: 2,279

Before that I was two months pescetarian. Not brilliant but would have still helped a bit.
But, yes, it's great! I'm always particularly staggered by the water and forestry savings.

Vegan versus vegetarian calculators - how they compare:

1 month vegan
Animal Lives: 30
lbs of Co2: 600

1 month lacto-ovo vegetarian
Animal Lives: 17
lbs of Co2: 134

According to the vegetarian calculator an omnivorous human will consume 16lbs of dead animal flesh in a single month. That makes me feel very sick. That's over a stone in slowly decaying carcasses every month.
