The Weather.

I'm rooting for the Sunday/Monday event to intensify!! 😁 ❄️❄️❄️

"There remains 2 periods of winter weather to focus on in the 5-Day Forecast.

The first is Saturday morning through midday when snow showers work in. Watching for a burst of potentially moderate snow before sunrise Saturday that would coat things up before more snow shower activity comes in late morning through early afternoon. Overall, a Coating to 2 inches of snow through the area - with highest totals more likely in the hills.

The Sunday to Monday event continues to give forecast headaches. Showing the new European AI model below on the right, which has been fairly consistent with accumulating snow (1-3 Inches) Sunday afternoon into the evening. There is still some chance this misses completely, and also some chance it turns more into a moderate (3-6 Inch) event. Need to continue to dial in today."

@KLS, are you getting any snow yet? It's been falling steadily here for a good hour. I scrapped my plans for a visit to my mom in RI and a football party (my team is playing today in the playoffs), so I'll be watching the game from home. :(

Sorry. That is disappointing. Started around 7:15 AM ...we may have an inch at 10 am so it's really nothing too exciting for me. I don't know how long it will continue because the temperature is going to rise, I believe, and we may end up with rain, which will suck. The roads are pretty slick right now, as they are covered.

Hmm, I was looking at the Weather Channel online, and it seems that there might be a lull from noon to 3 p.m.. There is still a chance I can get to RI if it holds off for a couple of hours. My mom said the roads in her area aren't bad. Sanded and all. I do have some highway driving, but there's a fair amount of back roads I'd have to traverse. We'll see.

Just be careful if you do go… Going slow seems to help a lot. I drove three times so far this winter in the snow after not having driven in it for a few years and I was surprised at how well I did as long as I was careful and didn't have anyone behind me being impatient and making me nervous lol.

Big disappointment so far but I am being promised that there's a part two to the storm that should still deliver.

Part two barely delivered. We maybe got two inches total but it it's so heavy and wet it's kind of sinking into itself lol.

Sun has really stepped up since moving here and takes care of the driveway.

My poor Floridians.

BIG WINTER STORM
The end of January is going to be wild. Two major winter storms and two major arctic outbreaks, the second of which later next week could reach historic cold into Florida.

Classic battle of the models. There should be a wide area of snow, then sleet, an ice storm, then rain. Euro and GFS models shown below. Take a moment to look at both.

Often what happens in these setups in my experience is that the cold air is under modeled. Arctic cold is very dense and ends up farther south than models think at range. What this means is it's possible the storm gets suppressed south even more with the cold, but we will see.

Point being: EURO brings a major snowstorm to the I-40 corridor with 6"++ snow, followed by a significant ice storm from Texas to Georgia, and severe storms on the I-10 and Gulf Coast corridor.
GFS has the cold stronger and further south, and the axis of snowstorm, ice storm, rain all shifts south dramatically.

My take: I think it's essentially likely enough to bank on there being a major winter storm this Saturday-Sunday (24-25). A major snowstorm and ice storm is likely. Where those two setup is too hard to determine this length of time before the event.

After this storm, some of the coldest air in years will crash into the entire eastern U.S. from the North Pole. The next headline after this weekend storm will be potential for record setting cold into Florida, and another winter storm in the southeast about 8-10 days from now. I do not think the snow showers in Florida and Georgia was the last chance for this year, as crazy as that sounds.

Awww, I am sorry it didn’t pan out. I ended up safely getting to RI. We had about 4 inches here. My area at home entered bust status as well. I think DB’s final map with accumulations was 2.3 inches. He gave himself a C+ for his forecast, lol.

I NEED this big storm to come Sunday/Monday because my NY daughter has to go to Tampa for work. She's flying out Monday and then I have to sleep over to watch blackberry and I Don't WANT TO 😩 IF it snows, her flight will be canceled then she won't have to go lol. She's hoping for the same. 🙏🙏🙏
