The Weather.

Same old forecast here for the rest of the summer into fall! Back home in Iowa and Minnesota, there is a horrible heat wave with temps going to be near 100 this weekend! It is hotter up there than here!

The weather is all upside down. It's crazy! So far, it's been pleasant this morning, but we have an excessive heat warning that's supposed to kick in around 11 a.m.

yup, that's the same one that we are getting and it is going to get worse before it get's better - I live on the 10th floor, with a balcony and although facing north east makes growing plants difficult at least we don't get that afternoon, evening sun - in case the power flucuates I have lots of ice which I froze in bags and containers and lots of water both for drinking and for flushing as if the power goes out the water will also - we do have air conditioning which I try to keep to a dull roar, set at 25C (77F) and then before going to bed run it down to 22C and then back up to 25C and hope it doesn't come on over night, which so far it hasn't - I think that is about to change and will likely turn up the setting to 26/27 - Monday and Tuesday are now forecast to be 99F and with the humidity 117F - craziness

the challenge is keeping your core temperature down and that is tougher for older people and pets if there is no a/c - I have lots of gas in our vehicle so that if it gets really bad we can go for a drive in its a/c and if really bad then Lake Ontario is close by and although it is polluted close to the edges I think there will likely be a lot of people going in for a dip

maybe I am over preparing however I have never been sorry to have too much of anything as I have a lot of elderly neighbours and they may need help

I'm faring surprisingly well so far but we'll see what I think by next week, when we've had a few days in a row of oppressive heat lol.

My house feels hot even though I left windows open last night. I ordered a neck fan from Amazon as someone in my class said they were good at keeping you cool.

I have cooling scarves from years ago that I have barely used and yet are amazing - you just dunk them in water and they cool your neck - they don't have to go in the fridge or the freezer - I think a wet cloth or a wet tshirt is just a effective - don't think I could stand a fan, hope it works for you.

Stepped outside for a bit and then came in and the temp difference is crazy and I haven't even put the a/c on yet today - sitting at 25.5C / 78F inside and that is pretty comfortable.

I think I have one of those...you wear it on your neck and it has a small fan on both sides? I purchased it to wear while I walk to keep the pesky bugs from flying in my face but sadly it didn't work. I ended up donating it.

I caved and put on the AC. Way too hot for me. The older I get, the worse I do with humidity, which I've always been sensitive to. My body hates it. It saps the life out of me.
Same. But I've always been sensitive to it. Definitely worse now.

34°C over here today but if feels like it's 38°C. It's also very humid and we have tons of mosquitoes.

I actually do not put the AC on as it's too expensive. I've been working at home all day long doing chores and decluttering. When it gets too hot at night, I will start to put it on.

the building we live in has water based chillers / central air that we can then control the temperature individually - when we moved in the utilities were included in the rent and so now it is grandfathered in - people who moved in the last few years do not have that luxury and so I am very grateful - I try very hard to act as if I do pay for it and so run both the a/c in the summer and the heat in the winter as little as possible - they did put in smart thermostats last year so we can't put the a/c below 21.5 and can't put the heat above 23 or 24, which is just fine with me

there are no mosquitos on the 10th floor...

I choose not to have air conditioning at my place; I would have had it when I had companion animals had they needed it, but they never did. But everyplace else does.... and I feel a slightly unpleasant chill almost everywhere else I go indoors.
