The Minimalist Vegan

I don't understand all these minimalist blogs, books, magazines, videos....
Seems like a ton of fuss and rules to just say "quit buying stuff, quit storing stuff, find a place for what you have".
But that doesn't make anyone an income I guess

I have thought about this topic. I think that a lot of what is happening in the world is a product of nostalgia for a mid-twentieth century model of life, that is, a high consumption, fossil-fuel abundant era. But now with fossil fuels becoming less abundant and EROI declining as well as economic changes such as financialisation of the housing market, job precarity etc this is putting a lot of pressure on the mid-twentieth century model. Because everyone is so fixated on living the mid-twentieth century lifestyle but the energy and economic realities do not allow it, then we are seeing coping mechanisms. The East Asians have reacted very directly and vigorously with e.g. "lying flat" and "let it rot" movements, but for some reason Western people seem to need to boost their egos with glamorous philosophies such as minimalism. It is all just rationalizing an inability to keep up with the high-energy mid-twentieth century model. That is just my hypothesis and I have written about it more here.
