It's TG in 10 days time! So what's on the menu? Is it always a traditional type of meal of do you make treats that you hardly ever eat?

I have spent 2 TG's in the US. For the first one my family met up at my late cousin's country club so it was a buffet. I had a stir fry with tofu and rice plus ice cream. There were over a 100 guests and I was the only vegan. As much as it was stylish and in a fabulous decor, it didn't feel like Thanksgiving. It was quite a letdown.
The second and last time that I went to a TG dinner was at my younger cousin's house. She made a turkey for her guests but all of the side dishes except for the gravy were plant based.

I do remember tasting the sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and thought that it was awful; more like a dessert rather than a vegetable. I also didn't like the plant based roast (can't remember the name perhaps Tofurkey?) as it had as strange taste to
it. I never got around to tasting pumpkin pie as the one that my cousin served was vegetarian.

Anyway, it was far nicer celebrating in a lovely home with family compared to being in a crowded country club.

I am grateful that at least, I did experience this event twice and especially for it being a family event. We didn't take any photos so I hope that the memory will not fade with time.

My sister hosts a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and salad with pumpkin and apple pies. She always has a vegan version of the sides.

I haven't hosted Thanksgiving in many years, but I am doing it this year, as I have the most space, and my mom is 84, so no one wanted to burden her at her age. My sis and mom are going to have the turkey prepared at my mom's and then they will bring it. I'm not happy about having dead flesh in my house, but if I want to spend time with my family, which I do, I decided I had to compromise. I'm making Cheap Lazy Vegan's holiday roast for me, as it's quite delicious.

All that said, most of the sides will be vegan, though my nephews are bringing green bean casserole and creamed peas. We also are having mashed potatoes, turnips, glazed carrots, sweet potato casserole, vegan broccoli and cheese casserole, veggie stuffing, rolls and cranberry sauce.

Dessert will include apple pie, blueberry and cherry cheese pies (sadly not vegan) and pumpkin pie (also not vegan, sigh). I may make some cranberry muffins as well. And I plan to have a box of vegan chocolates from Divine Treasures on hand.

I live with two omnis so I'm exposed to meat and dairy on a daily basis. Honestly, it does not upset me at this point. I worry and focus on myself and what I can do. I can't worry about the rest of my family.

Our holidays are always at my daughter's house so I just bring my own vegan food as everyone else is omni.

Yes, living alone, I don't have see flesh and dairy, so I sympathize with you. I will get over it, and I know we will have a lovely day. :D

But I do understand preferring not to have meat in your own home. It's a valid concern. I do commend you being able to be gracious about it. I think it is easier for me because I live with it day to day.

Thank you. <3 Yes, I have been spoiled in that regard. :D I commend you, too, for having to endure flesh and dairy on a daily basis. I would have a hard time with that after being on my own for so long.

That kinda took me a minute....

For me it's "thank goodness I have four days off in a row"!
I do love to make food today. I've got a seitan, cranberries, green beans and stuffing. Pretty ticked I didn't get mushrooms, but oh well

It's national no-shop till end of Dec and I'm gonna try my darndest to adhere to that--just shops you want impacted, not the small minority or ethically owned ones you want to do well

Happy Thanksgiving!! It was a whirlwind day, but it was also a great day! Family, food and fun! I am thankful for so very much, and hsaving everyone come to my home was a treat. The great-nephews got to play in my backyard, something neither one has, as they live in apartments. They had such a blast running around and playing ball.

I had a nice Thanksgiving with family at my sister's house. This year we were missing a few people as Ken and Camri stayed up in North Carolina and Colin missed the train to get home. We could actually all fit at the table. I would post a picture of the group but the pictures are not showing up for some reason. They are on Facebook though.
