We always hear about how killing animals for food is bad for the people who eat their meat, the environment, and, above all, the animals themselves.

But what about the impact of slaughtering animals on a daily basis on the butcher's psyche? Isn't the butcher likely to develop serious psychological disorders?

And that has been investigated.
I don't know what it's like in Austalia. Hopefully it's better. But here in America you could make a good argument for not eating meat without even considering the animal's welfare. What is happening to the workers is inhumane too,

The book and the movie, Fast Food Nation, goes into it in some detail.
NIH and the AMA have published papers on it.
There is also evidence that people working in the "meat industry" are more likely to commit violent crimes.

these workers are something like 3x more likely to be seriously hurt at work.

In the US, many of these workers are migrants (often undocumented) and the companies believe they do not have to consider their rights. I remember reading about a facility that basically kidnapped their workers and made them into virtual slaves.

Even though I don’t “like” what is happening in the slaughterhouse industry I give @Lou a like because what he said is True and it’s important that people understand How bad eating flesh Really is!

never heard this said but this could be a counter to the ol' You like animals more than people argument. supporting the meat industry also harms people.

in many cases the number of OSHA violations and fines seem ridiculous.

I just learned that young deer do "zoomies", just like a greyhound! We watched the two young deer that hang around our yard running in circles while their mother watched. I looked it up, and apparently this is a known thing. The technical term is FRAPs: frenetic random activity periods. It was super cute to watch.
