Remembering the 10s of Millions of Animals Who Were Exploited and Died during Both Wars. Lest We Forget.
Decorated war pigeons
Pigeons are highly intelligent and can fly long distances at very high speed. They were used during the war to deliver messages to enable
the army to be aware of the enemies plans. Thanks to these messages, many lives were saved.
Many pidges were shot dead or badly injured and never returned. They had no choice and fly into the war zones.
This is a reminder to all of those who treat them as vermin and flying rats or harm them.
In total, 32 pigeons were decorated with the Dickin Medal, including:
