''Easter is a Christian celebration marking the resurrection of Jesus, but many non-religious people also observe some of its traditions as a celebration of new life. Unfortunately, a combination of various religious practices, symbolic associations, and capitalist enterprising means that for most people Easter celebrations come at the expense of animals.''
Easter is a celebration of life and new birth, yet it is consumed with so much cruelty and death

Originally, it had nothing to do with Christianity. It used to be the feast of a fertility goddess worshipped in many cultures; the Celts called her Eostara. In the English word Easter, her name still lives on. The feast seemed to be so popular that the church had no other choice than rebranding it to Jesus' resurrection.
However, no matter what people celebrate at this time of the year, I do detest celebrating by murder. Killing sheep is an extremely cowardly thing to do, since it would be difficult to find more peaceful and gentle creatures than them. Good Christians celebrate their Saviour who'd been killed... by killing animals who are exactly as innocent as Jesus was, and did nothing bad to people?
Admins, please do moderate my post if it happens to contradict the rules, but I just need to share one of the most enraging things I have ever heard: one extremely brainwashed religious fundamentalist explained to me that Easter lambs are very happy to get slaughtered! What the actual f*ck, I thought.
Honestly, I got even more enraged when this YouTube announcement appeared: in the first few seconds, it showed a bucolic scene on the countryside, with sheep walking around freely - in the next seconds, a nice family was shown, eating "delicious" slices of a dead lamb at the dinner table. I wondered why they left out the step between the two amazing scenes? Why did they not include some "charming" scenes from the abattoir? Very strange.
