2 Men from Kent Charged with Killing a Sheep by smashing Her Head into a fence and then putting explosives into her mouth and abdomen.

We have charged two men in connection with the killing of a sheep on the South Downs near Ditchling Beacon.

Police were called on Monday, 6 November, 2023, to a report of a sheep having been attacked near Ditchling Beacon on the evening of Thursday, 2 November.

An investigation was launched and two men were swiftly arrested.
Leighton Ashby, 31, of Beckett Road in Ashford, Kent, and Oakley Hollands, 20, of Mussenden Lane in Horton Kirby, Kent, have now been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

They will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 7 August.
Superintendent Rachel Swinney said: “This report was treated with the seriousness it deserved, and a thorough investigation was carried out.

“We have also engaged with the owner of the sheep, local farmers and the wider community to provide reassurance and advice.
“I would urge the public not to speculate on the details of this incident while the court process is ongoing.”

UPDATE: Found guilty and will be sentenced on 10th November.

@shyvas Thanks for posting about pigeons being incapacitated by string around their feet, and people helping them. I knew about windows sometimes being a problem for birds, but hadn't thought about loose string! I guess those old ads about how "every litter bit hurts" are truer than I imagined.

@shyvas Thanks for posting about pigeons being incapacitated by string around their feet, and people helping them. I knew about windows sometimes being a problem for birds, but hadn't thought about loose string! I guess those old ads about how "every litter bit hurts" are truer than I imagined.

Anyone can help these poor pidges by removing string/thread/hair from their wee little feet. I can do it, so anyone eager to help can do it.
There are many groups in various towns in the UK who meet up on a regular basis and patrol towns. They remove the string and if necessary take some of the pidges to rehabbers.

I managed to destring 3 pidges during the course of one afternoon when I was in Brighton.

I also managed to destring one over here with the help of a man. I was trying to catch a poor pidge who had both feet stringfooted plus a huge twig that was upside down and attached to one leg. It couldn't walk properly and I was worried that they would get predated or stuck in a drainpipe. Anyway, the man caught it from behind and we both worked on it for over half an hour. We were so relieved when it quickly flew off with two brand new little feet.

There is also a free online workshop on how to destring pidges. I have posted it in the AR section of the animal forum.

I am a member of the Humane Farming Association/HFA. They are working to close down factory farms, and provide refuges for some farmed animals. Animals grown for food have no rights at all in USA. They are treated cruelly at factory farms in USA. They are legally known as "food animals" and do not even have the rights as other US animals.

For four decades, HFA has led the charge against farm-animal abuse and the very real dangers factory farming pose to our health and to our environment.

From groundbreaking legislation, anti-cruelty investigations and prosecutions, legal action, and direct care for abused animals, your support enables us to ensure that farm animals receive the care and legal protection they so desperately need and deserve.

These are just some of the reasons the Humane Farming Association is known as the nation’s most effective and credible farm-animal protection organization. We really do need your help to keep up the fight!

Squeak's gorgeous nest! He's just a sweet pidge and always building a nest.

For those who don't remember him; he's the very seriously injured pidge that was found on the streets of Brighton, over two years ago. He was a juvenile and we don't know what happened to him. Justin welcomed him into his home and gave him multiple daily massages with special ointment plus physio and vitamins. I was gobsmacked how he sat perfectly still during his treatment and never budged.

We thought that his feathers would never grow back. However, the above pic tells another story. Justin also didn't realise that Squeaks now thinks that the former is 'dad'!
