Hey so, my already fairly thin six year old came down with the flu. It's been nasty, and I took him up to the hospital last night to make sure nothing more serious was going on. Today I noticed that he is getting really thin from not having eaten or held anything down for the past two days. Suggestions? This mamma is worried. :sadnod:

Sorry to hear that, it must be heartbreaking :( I suppose once he recovers from the flu you can try to fatten him up a bit? On mostly healthy fats, of course!

He's been vomiting? What other symptoms? What did the hospital say?

Are you in the US? If so, the pharmacy will have cola syrup (often behind the pharmacist's counter for some reason). It is cheap, and for a kid who's been vomiting, sometimes the huge shot of glucose kind of surprises the stomach into halting the up-chucks. You put a teaspoon on some crushed ice and let him eat it.

I think you need to get him hydrated before you can fatten him up. Some of the thinness could be that he's dry.Gatorade or Pedialyte, popsicles, even noncaffeniated soft drinks. Salty crackers or pretzels.

Hope he feels better!
