TV & Film Movie Lounge

I watched Turtles All the Way Down, last night.
it got some good reviews. (97% on Rotten tomatoes). It's not the kind of movie I usually like (teen romance), but I've been surprising myself a lot lately. I really liked it. It has a philosophy/psychology thread in it that also appealed to me.
Don't watch the trailer - it gives away too much.
but here is a short synopsis. Oh, I think it's based on a book.

"The story centers on 16-year-old Aza Holmes, an American high school student with OCD and anxiety, and her search for a fugitive billionaire who happens to be a neighbor's father. She is grieving the loss of her own father while a budding relationship grows between her and the billionaire's son."

last night we watched Marry Me which we realized partway in that we had seen before however it has Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson and lots of great singing so we just carried on... the night before we watched Unfrosted (Jerry Seinfeld) and I do not recommend it - we didn't mind it most of the way through although it was silly etc and then he somewhat glorified a recent political event that was not in the least funny and so all respect was lost...

I don't watch that many movies anymore. I used to watch 100 - 150 a year, but I'm probably down to more like a dozen a year now. I did see "A Haunting in Venice" not too long ago and it was a good "movie night" movie. This recent series based on Christie books by Branagh have been pretty good overall. I know at least one Christie fan who doesn't like how much they differ from the books, but, well, it's been decades since the books were on the shelves, so I guess some changes aren't all that unexpected.

Sting (2024)

I had heard about this movie months ago. I think I even posted something about it. but it hadn't come out yet so there wasn't any info on it. Well it's out now. Not sure I'll get around to watching it but I find the premise intriguing: a horror movie based on Charlotte's Web.

I wonder if it has an animal rights theme. You know with Wilbur.

oh, no. I just read the synopsis and summary. It has nothing to do with Charlotte's Web. In this movie the little girl is named Charlotte and the spider is Sting. They live in an apartment. there is no pig, no barn, no farm animals.

In the book the little girl is named Fern, the spider is named Charlotte, and most of the story takes place at a farm.

I think the writers missed an opportunity here. I was hoping for something like the spider seeking revenge for Wilbur leads the farm animals in a bloody insurrection. Well maybe they can re-do Animal Farm that way.

We just saw The Strangers horror film at the O2. It is part of a trilogy. I thought it was quite scary and tense at first, but wasn't that good. 7/10.

we watched Dune 2 yesterday - I half read and half watched as I have read all the books and watched the first movie from years ago but my honey loves it - not so much fun when you know exactly what is going to happen
