News London, Europe's biggest city, elects Muslim Mayor

Socialist, schmosialist. He's a Labour politician and: "Ideologically, he is situated on the moderate social democratic wing of the party." (According to Wikipedia.) Just saying.

Indeed. Sorry, I keep forgetting that others do not see "socialist" as a positive word, as I do :D

No worries, and to be fair I think the article you posted also said 'socialist'. However, there are a couple of actual socialist parties in the UK, but not sure any of them are represented in the parliament(s).

Good to know!

To be honest, before Jeremy Corbyn, the mental image I had in my mind of a "socialist" labour party was that of, hmm, Neil Kinnock? Quite some time ago, and likely inspired by watching "Spitting Image" in the 80's....

He's Baron Kinnock of Bedwellty now, as I was a bit surprised to find out from Wikipedia, and in the House of Lords...

This comedian has pointed out a side effect of Sadiq Khan becoming mayor of London

Are there any Christian (or Jewish, or Hindu etc) majors (or equivalent) in very muslim countries, I wonder? Somehow I doubt the Major of Tehran is a Christian?

Thank you. :) I would have guessed that if I had to guess. But then I have to ask myself why the BBC is sensitive to this issue while no one else seems to care.

Not just the BBC but all UK new channels always give out the information before showing most videos.
