The pharmacist at Walmart gave me price quotes for each of my five
prescription medicines. Four were exactly the same price at Kroger
and Walmart. But Pravastatin was $29.79 at Kroger,
$14.52 at Walmart.

Anyone have any idea why there would be such a price discrepancy?

My best guess is that Walmart tries to be competitive when it comes to drug pricing, but it also depends on the drugs themselves. It's possible that the drugs that all cost the same are priced by their makers and not by the stores, but there's some leeway with other drugs such as Pravastatin. Also, generics are cheaper than the name brand drugs.
