Is there anyone here who was freaked out by Jaws as a kid as I was? What are your memories?

Like most people I was really scared by that film when I was younger. I remember being scared even at the adverts. :D It taps into a primal fear most humans have of being vulnerable in water. I had to study that film for one of my courses and I got a lot more out of it looking at it in a different way. A classic.:)

(One really disturbing film about sharks is Open Water.)

I absolutely love this movie...awesome, awesome, awesome!

One of my all time favorites!! I just love the way that music was incorporated into that film! I don't even know how many times I have seen this movie. It didn't really scare me "out of the water" as I lived no where near the ocean when it came out. Though I must admit to this day I look for fins in the water and even when I KNOW it is dolphins..... duh dun duh dun..... comes into my head!! :D

love this movie too.
the part that freaked me out the most was the first girl who went swimming and then was hanging on to the buoy.

I saw somewhere (about the making of the film) that the scene you are talking about was done impromptu. They wanted her reaction to be real when she was being jerked down in the water by the shark...so she never knew when she was going to be pulled down...brilliant and freaky!

There's lots of great trivia about Jaws, for instance Ben Gardner's head popping out of the boat was added after the film had already been finished and was being shown to preview audiences. Spielberg said he got greedy and wanted to get just one more scare out of the audience, so he filmed it in his swimming pool and added it after the fact. (This is also why the body count doesn't add up when they're talking to the mayor on the beach the next day).
