Nothing else will get the impact we want, NOTHING else.

Only synthetic meat thats much cheaper to produce and ideally better than the real thing has a chance of creating the impact we want.

So do you think all resources and money should be pooled into synthetic meat and nothing much else?

All our persuasion and other efforts results in 1% of the population being vegan.

You may be right.

As a young person, you have the opportunity to tailor your university education so that you can help do this. The synthetic meat industry needs food scientists, process engineers, biologists, marketing specialists, business people, etc. Actions speak louder than words.

Like I said to the other person who made this line of argument the other day: While only a few people are vegans, the vegan food industry is booming. Which means, a lot of non-vegans are eating vegan food.

I think there is merit in advocating for all (good) vegan products.

But yes, synthetic meat can potentially make a huge impact. The reduced suffering will be a big win, though I'm unsure yet if the amount of energy and resources needed to produce it will be significantly less than producing real meat.

You seriously need to stop using the pronouns "we" and "ours" when the proper one would be "I". Using we and ours is only correct when they reflect shared opinions, and I assure you, the majority of your use of them does not reflect the opinions of people here, nor vegans in general.
Just what is YOUR "persuasion and other efforts" in helping boost the vegan population? I can tell you one thing -- it's not helping people find that plant based foods are tasty, easy, healthier, and affordable! Which they are, and one of the easiest ways to promote change. Just getting people on board with eating more plant based meals without making them vegan has huge impact. You can probably find more lasting change from books like The Omnivores Dillema then Earthlings.

I think that cultured meat does have a potential for the omni market. As long as the animal that is used for the experiment does not ungergo any form of pain or stress when the cells are removed, I think that it's an excellent idea. Each and every idea including lab experiments that potentially diminish animal suffering are most welcome.

However, I wouldn't consider eating or buying it due to the fact the animal cells are needed for the fabrication.

an excuse to charge more for vegan food for sure...prices need to reflect business needs to earn money.

however...another more deadly pandemic is more useful imho

not wishing for it but an accident waiting to happen

if this one had been more deadly the CAUSE of such viruses would be mentioned constantly and realisation that 8 billion people up from 2 billion only 50 years ago cannot keep destroying billions of animal lives and the planet with this unhealthy resource hungry outdated method of nutrition.

education about nutrition is needed

education about pandemics is needed

education about health diseases from animal consumption is needed

as for fake meat ? good for those taste habits...one would think no one ever changed from eating an indian to a chinese the way people harp on about habits of taste
