I have had my internet and phone through a national company for quite a few years. They charged me an outrageous amount of money for basic internet and phone. No cable tv or any add ons. $92 for internet and $40 for phone. And that was the reduced price because it was bundled. I called frequently to ask if there was any way to lower this. I'm on Social Security fixed income, and I have to watch every expense. Nope, no chance.

I had been watching the new cellphone internet providers advertising $40 internet and $30 phone. They said that when a cellphone tower filled up to capacity no-one else in the area could get in, and I would have to wait for an opening.

I went in and asked again, AND THEY HAD AN OPENING. $70 total; down from $132 with the other company.

I took the equipment in and cancelled my phone and internet. They asked me if I was moving or signing with another internet provider. When I said I was going with another provider, they magically found this great deal. 3 months free and 3 years for $30 per month. I declined. I don't do business with companies that screw over people like that.

I have a friend who every 12 months or so calls his cable provider to cancel and every time they give him a better rate. the rate holds for like a year and then starts creeping up. Rinse and repeat.

I may have missed something here due to brain fog! Why didn't you accept the best offer as it's + 40 $ cheaper?

I don't like the whole bait and switch thing. The new company said the price is the same for everybody. No low introductory price, and then a 50% increase after a year. I'd rather do business with companies that don't have "special" prices.

in theory I totally agree with you.
and I don't really endorse my friends strategy.
but I do admire that he found a way to turn the tables.
