I have a pretty large dog - he's a lab/newfoundland mix, around 125 lbs.; he was adopted when he was about 1.5-2 years old so I'm guessing he's in the 12-13 year old range, not quite sure on that.

When we first adopted him, I bought him two beds (he chewed'em) and then didn't buy anything after that. I'm not sure if that was all from his separation anxiety and he wouldn't chew them now. I'm not sure he'd even use a bed now if I got him one, he really prefers laying down on cool floors - looooooves my tiled floor.

But because he's older, and moves slower and has some trouble with his hip/back legs (i.e. he's really really slow to get up, slides around but he's fine once he's standing) I'm wanting to take a chance and have a bed for him when he DOES feel like lying down on something soft/supportive.

Because he likes the cool flooring, would an elevated bed work? Do they even make them for the larger dogs? All the ones I've seen seem like they'd break under his weight. I really want some sort of orthopedic-type for him. Does anyone have a brand that they have had good luck with? Or even something that's not even geared toward dogs, but has worked really well?

I have 3 of these that I bought from Overstock, extra large size:

I also have one very similar to this but found it at Homegoods, extra large as well:

I have purchased a gazillion dog beds over the years and these ones have stood up to my kids the best. I have a 128lb. GSD/Malamute mix, 2 female GSDs (about 80lbs. each) and a 55lb mix.
