David Bowie - RIP Starman

I was so shocked and saddened to hear this news this morning. One of the most creative performers ever! A true genius whose influence was far reaching. He will be missed. :(

From the space station...

This is indeed so sad. I remember as a youngster how his I-will-do-what-I-want-no-matter-what-people-think approach to his art confirmed my desire to march to a different drummer at times. It made me a whole lot less self-conscious about who I was becoming as a person. I hate to think of a world with Bowie, so I won't; we are fortunate he shared his incredible talent with the world, and it will live on.

He embodied the heart and soul of rock and roll. Just as our parents were becoming accustomed to long hair and anti-war protests, along comes this androgynous personality that they weren't quite sure about but were pretty certain they didn't like. And, oh, that baritone voice in the tradition of the great crooners.

I miss him more than I could have imagined. I'm learning some of his songs for my guitar group next week. Not sure which one to perform, but "Changes" seems obvious:

"I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same"
