How should a new vegan start to become an animal rights activist? I am new to veganism and I want to spread awareness about what is happening to the animals. My fear is that talking about it, people will become angry with me and try to fight me on it and I am not sure how to prepare for it... Because I am so new, I am afraid someone might ask me something and I won't have a response which might make what I'm trying to say sound meaningless and I don't want to ruin the meaning of veganism. Does that even make sense? I don't know... Does anyone have any tips?

I have a lot of tips. The first one is to see if there are any local groups in your area.
PETA doesn't have local chapters anymore. But you can (should join PETA) You may not agree with everthing PETA does but they are the biggest animal activist group on the planet.Their info on their website is geared to make vegan live easier and to help activists operate.
There probably is local groups in your area. You can find them thru FaceBook and MeetUp and other social platforms that I don't know about.
And yeah if you go door-to-door or face-to-face you do have to prepare. There is a few sites that can help. I have some of them bookmarked. let me see if I can find them.

Advocacy starts at home and not necessarily using a megaphone.

I would highly recommend that you contact local groups such as OAA and Voiceless for the Anonymous plus local or state FB groups. Contact and join your local animal shelters and make friends. Working and learning alongside other activists will teach you how to talk to members of the public. I certainly would not advise you to do any door to door activism or do a demo without others. Being a member of a group is the best way to learn the techniques and also give you the support you need. Never do activism alone. Be part of of the vegan & AR's family. They will help you on your journey as an activist.

The best and most enjoyable way of learning about animal rights is by joining a group of local activists. I've been doing activism for a number of years within various groups and in my own experience, people never get angry with our members. On the contrary, their curiosity is aroused and they seem to be genuinely interested about veganism and animal welfare/rights. I did a VIVA demon in Brighton last Sunday and we had the most interesting conversations with members of the public. We also handed out leaflets and sample of vegan quiche which was immensely enjoyed by everyone.

Moreover, we met many other vegans who discussed their vegan way of life and delicious recipes. Activism can be far from screaming over a megaphone and very enjoyable. The more the merrier!

''Activism doesn't have to mean protests or public speaking. You can wear animal rights T-shirts, put stickers on your car, hand out leaflets, chalk messages on sidewalks, or share vegan recipes with friends. Talking to legislators, signing petitions, and supporting ethical businesses are also effective ways to make an impact from home — especially if you live somewhere without a big vegan community.''
