9/11 - 15 Years

The remembrance activities are on the TV right now. It is hard to believe it has been 15 years. I remember that morning so clearly. :(

I still remember that day, like it happened yesterday. I was just back home from the college and saw my mom and dad staring at the tv. They looked frozen. And then i saw the video of the attack itself. I asked: "What the ****???" And they were staring at me in silence with round eyes.

Some people are posting on FB about it being an inside job, conspiracy theory, and why don't they show us the video of the planes hitting the towers. Well, I remember them showing it over and over again. I even have the second plane on VCR tape, hitting the second tower. It was my day off and I have a habit of taping shows I watch in case I miss something good and want to back and watch again. They broke into the programming after the first plane...so I was watching and still taping when the second tower was hit...it was such a surreal experience.

It was my day off as well. I had actually planned to go to the city that day, but I had worked really late on Monday and I decided to bag it. My mom woke me up with a phone call and simply said, Just turn on the TV--now. We watched in horror as the second plane hit. I ended up working that day, as the newspaper needed all hands on deck. I think I worked 21 straight days after that, alongside people who had lost friends and family members. It was such an awful, awful time.

I also remember that day very well ... was in the office (afternoon in Germany), and suddenly, somebody saw a message on an online forum about the first plane hitting the first tower.

We googled and could not believe what we saw - within a short while, all office activity ceased. Nobody could concentrate on work any more. I remember that I went home and that my wife and I followed the footage, in shock and disbelief.

I remember I thought it wasn't real at first - those explosions were just too reminiscent of the tendency towards epic explosions and destruction in American action movies.

The other night there was a documentary on TV about 9/11 conspiracy theories. I could only stomach a few minutes of it. Some of them are just so stupid I can't bear to listen. I could see that perhaps there could have been a bit of cover-up if some of the intelligence services failed to prevent the attacks due to incompetence or lack of intelligence sharing or bureaucracy or laziness. Most of the other conspiracy theories are just too outlandish / silly.
