A lifelong vegetarian told she would never have children has given birth to triplets after she started eating meat.

Laura Dixon, 34, turned to IVF after trying for ten years to get pregnant naturally, but during her second cycle of treatment she suffered a miscarriage.

When she became pregnant during her final round of IVF, she was warned she had a high risk of another miscarriage or a dangerously early labour.

well she went back to being a vegetarian....she probably did need quite a lot of extra protein gestating three foetuses.

I feel like this story could be used to reinforce the omni idea that you need to eat meat to get a good source of protein.

I think that's why the Daily Mail probably ran it. There are plenty of vegetarians who obviously get enough protein. If a non-pregnant omnie wants to use this story to reinforce those ideas about protein, then they're not really being completely logical, and may just want a reason to eat meat.

Let me put it this way I ate loads of meat and animal products earlier part of my life and first part of our marriage and I still couldn't concieve a child. What is wrong with people?

Exactly. Because she was a lifelong vegetarian, it's easy to blame the diet. Total nonsense. There are plenty of women who manage to conceive and have healthy babies while on a vegetarian or vegan diet. Her individual experience is just that - an individual experience.

And besides, there are also lots of women who were raised on an omni diet and have trouble conceiving, and yet nobody blames the lifelong omni diet. :fp:

I had a patient just today who is 44 years old and had 3 failed ivf attempts in recent years. She became pregnant the old fashioned way, much to everyone's suprise. Oh, and SHE WENT VEGETARIAN from omni last year, so I should write an article about that!!!!!!!

Yeah it sucks that she turned to meat as a source of protein instead of veg options, but it's good news that she has ditched the meat after giving birth.

My vegetarian parents have raised seven children. Me and my vegetarian wife raised two children. No meat needed.

Most people who use IVF are omni.

Most animals who give birth to many siblings are herbivores.

I wish I could stop birth control 'cause I've been veg the majority of my fertile years, but sadly it doesn't work like that for vegetarians who don't want to conceive.

I was told if I wanted children, I would have to eat meat 5 years before getting pregnant.
