TV & Film Star Wars Episode 7

You guys need to take a deep breath, and stop taking yourselves so seriously.

There was a smiley in the comment...right?

you were really making a point, rather than making a joke. Adding a smiley doesn't make something a joke or else being a comedian would be really easy. :p

Depends on the sensitivity of the reader, or how vested they are in the topic being discussed I suppose... Wasn't meant to be a serious comment. I think the smiley was sufficient indication.

Oh, I don't know 'bout that. Not that you are but, I usually smile even when totally not joking and intentionally trying to be a dickhead to someone (Yep, I have my moments)... Just saying :D

My argument was against the idea that the film was suited to the "PC crowd" due to its lack of main characters who are white men. If you happen not to hold that belief, then I of course wasn't arguing against you specifically.

I'm pretty vested in the topic, for good reasons, so I took it as serious and responded seriously, because I see a lot of people presenting the statement you made in total seriousness, so...

Yeah, my most sarcastic comments are usually accompanied by a smile.

Not so long ago there was also an outcry about the "PC" casting of the Hunger Games movies. Those people either hadn't read the books or had really bad reading comprehension skills.

Interesting about the "PC casting". I am happy about it, but to be honest, if the movie is bad, the fact that they cast people from minorities in it will not make me like it much more.

So why am I happy about it?
Well, to me as a white male it does not matter as much as the story and acting in the movie, but I understand that a person of colour or woman will identify better and like the movie more if one of the heros / heroines is more similar to them, and it makes me happy to think that influential people in Hollywood consider this and acknowledge the need to cater to the demands of their customers (although they are likely doing it only for very materialistic reasons).

On the other hand, it concerns me that there are people out there disparaging the movie because the main person is female and one of the heroes is a person of colour. I can only say that I do despise people who say that this is a reason for them not to watch the movie from the bottom of my heart.

Those people are even more ridiculous considering the fact that the main character of THG was almost undoubtedly whitewashed.
