I have experienced nocturia on and off the last few years but in the last 4 to 5 months or so I have literally experienced it every single night where around 3 to 4 times a night I wake up absolutely dying to use the bathroom. So this happens about a quarter of the times I wake up throughout the night (as I usually wake up around 10 to 15 times throughout the night). It's not the sort of thing I could ignore and then just turn over and go back to sleep because I feel like I have to urinate.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem? If so, were you able to find a solution?

.... what @shyvas says and what @Lou says

also, you said you are consuming 4000 calories and if you eat a lot of food before going to bed then that may also partially explain it - if I eat a big dinner late then all that food presses on my bladder and I also have to pee more often during the eat, if I eat a smaller amount and/or eat earlier then that doesn't happen... there is only so much space inside and something has to give...

A Tai Chi sifu told our group to hold the tip of the little pinky finger, and move the finger back and forth so the knuckle joints bend, do this everyday.

Nocturia has many causes. It can be due to something simple as large water intake before bed or very cold conditions during the night. The worst culprits are kidney disease and prostate cancer (check PSA levels). If the urine you pass is bloody, has a foul smell or is foamy, that is another red flag. Get to know the major causes of nocturia and cross them off one by one to really ascertain what may be causing your distress. If personal diagnosis does not resolve your issue, consult a doctor.

It doesn't have to be prostate cancer. I have to pee all the time. I have high PSAs. Recently had a prostate biopsy and I just have an enlarged prostate. There are medications - but I can live with this.

Jools hasn't been here since, so I hope he's gotten diagnosed!
This isn't anything to guess at -- needs to see a doctor!

Very interesting, but not a good idea to attempt self-diagnosis of a potential prostate or kidney problem.

I've never found a peer-reviewed study showing that moving one's pinky finger joint is an effective treatment for urination problems (nor for potentially serious underlying problems). Please be careful about making such claims.

@David3 I like Chinese ideas, something a sifu mentioned and not a claim.

Back in 2000 I had a huge cyst in my right lung, the specialist sent me to a surgeon who recommended removing the lung. Because of the waiting period I thought I'd try acupuncture with a Chinese doctor, I felt a subtle sensation the first visit and continued for 3 months and my lung regained full function. After 6 months I went back to the specialist who after x-rays etc sez "lucky you didn't go with the surgery".

I found I had an issue where I had to pee badly all day, the specialist gave me some tablets that calmed things down and put a dye through my viens to do x-ray. Later at home I made some herbal tea I was drinking and straight away I had to pee. The tea had a whole bunch of herbs and got a herb book to check each herb, Elderberry if drank regularly over a 2 week period will inflame the bladder. Went back for the results and told the the doc who sez "that's it!, there was nothing from the test and next step was to cut me open and have a look around". The tea was a fruity rose hip type bought at a supermarket.

I can't say this will work for you, but cutting sodium/salt from my diet reduced the amount of nightly trips, greatly, for me. I would say I was on par with you, and now I usually only have to get up once or sometimes twice, occasionally.

As people have mentioned, it could be various things. I would definitely get the PSA test, just to rule your prostate out. My doc said that enlarged prostates for men at my age is often the most common reason for the condition. However, you shouldn't leave things to chance, just go see your doctor. Hopefully, he doesn't give you pills to solve the problem. I know there are pills you can take, but they will have side effects.

Some urination problems are mental. Although I don't think that is the case of the OP. The guys at RadioLab did a whole podcast on this. Although i have the enlarged prostrate I seem to also have some of the symptoms of the mental kind. So maybe the pinky thing would work for that.
Also kegels.
But none of those things can be done in your sleep.
