It’s a nursery tale for the ages. A loving and independent mother unabashedly gives her best for the welfare of her child, only to be bemoaned and belittled by an entire Italian school district. I would pay damn good money to watch Meryl Streep speak-sing for an hour and a half about that.

But, in fact, something like that really happened in modern-day Italy.

I suppose if this child's parents wanted to leave the kid at home with a babysitter and eat out one night, they might have been able to eat vegan without raised eyebrows. But it's the old "Won't somebody think of the children" reaction. Adults can eat vegan cheese all they want, but giving it to kids is "child abuse", while feeding children a shitload of meat and dairy is supposedly normal. Let's hope things continue to get better for vegan parents in Italy.
