From a single plant, put in some years ago, we now have a large clump of sedum. It is beautiful in itself with its large pink heads just attempting to come into bloom now. Even during the summer it was attractive because of its succulent foliage.

But its greatest appeal is in the vast number of insects attracted to it. Today I have seen three different types of butterfly and literally hundreds of bees of several varieties working furiously away at the flower heads.

So, if you are looking for a plant that looks great and will considerably extend the season for insects way into the autumn you cannot do better than an ice plant. Ours is Sedum spectabile (Brilliant Group).

Absolutely lovely and so very beneficial to the environment and I just had to tell you about it. :)
