Hibernation

Yeah but I'd do it through summer instead of winter, or between Walking Dead seasons.

In all seriousness, it is interesting to think about. If not for convenience or to avoid the winter, to wait out temporary food shortages, famines, etc.

If humans could somehow hibernate at different times of the year, you could get rid of unemployment altogether. I don't see any drawbacks either.

Well, that does of course assume that the same jobs will exist while people are in hibernation :p People both take and create jobs. If they are hibernating, they are not consuming. Thus, the job market would be built around the number of people not hibernating.

It could be interesting. I'd like to sleep through the winter. (Yakherder the estivator could take my pad for the duration).

I also wonder if hibernation could extend someone's lifespan? Maybe someone wouldn't age nearly so quickly while their metabolism was slowed almost to a standstill. You'd be unaware during the extra time you were hibernating/estivating (as you largely are during sleep), but it would be interesting to be alive for a longer era.
