I've been vegetarian for a year now, but the one thing preventing me from going vegan is icecream. How did you guys manage it?

I'm fortunate to have most of these non dairy versions in my local grocery stores.

Well for me it's a non-issue. There are so many non dairy alternatives.

I'm not addicted to ice cream. But it is in my rotation of desserts. I tend to keep a pint in the freezer all the time. I have a Trader Joe's nearby and I like their chocolate flavored ice cream - it's also not expensive.

At the supermarket they had a 2 for one sale on B&Js. it's usually too expensive for me but I got 2. I got American Dream which is wonderful. I also got Change the Whirled -the Colin Kapernick endorsed one. I'm rationing them out - one scoop at a time.

@KLS52 Wow, those look delicious! Unfortunately, we don’t have any vegan icecream in my country.
I can't believe that is true.
So I googled "vegan ice cream in India".
And I got a lot of hits.
This one was the most comprehensive.

Ask your grocer if he can get some of these. Even if you are the only vegan in town, there are many people who are lactose intolerant and would like some non-dairy alternatives.

Ask these manufacturers if they supply and stores in your town.

There are also many alternatives to store bought ice cream.

My favorite is the banana hack which only requires a banana and a blender.
I always save my over ripe bananas, peel them, cut them in half, and freeze them. then I put them in my little blender with a little water.
but here is a more official recipe.

Google led me to this page because I was searching for a Mango "ice cream" recipe. this is one of my favorites. again no special equipment needed. And I love this one.

As a bonus there are many other ideas for vegan frozen desserts on this page.

And then I found this page with the same search.

not what I think of as an alternative to ice cream but I have a similar recipe to this that I use all the time.

I usually hear, "I'd be vegan but for cheese". So it's nice to hear a different excuse - and much easier to deal with, too.
