  1. Vegan newbie
Today marks my first week as a vegan, and I feel really good! The positives range from better poops to improved spirituality. I’ve been cooking a lot more as a vegan and feel fuller after meals. Before going vegan, I was snacking all day, and I admit I was 100% addicted to sugar. Now, I don’t snack at all.

However, I’ve gained a couple of kilograms in weight—probably because my meals contain a lot of calories. Still, knowing that I no longer support the killing and torture of animals is an awesome feeling.

I’ve been browsing this forum throughout the week and have learned a lot. Thank you guys for that!

I went from 93 to 85kg in the first 6 months. Settled at around 87kg now.
But I am a daily drinker and fry a lot of food

Welcome on board!

I hope the extra couple of kilograms didn't come from just one day of being vegan! :D Presumably, you have been transitioning for a while, and that's when you picked it up! Don't panic, it will hopefully sort itself out as your diet stabilises more, and there are things you can tweak, as well as exercise, of course.

Spirituality is an often overlooked aspect of veganism. I think a lot of people today rightly sense or know that something is gone horribly wrong and broken in society, but they just don't know what to do or where to start to break free of the situation as they're already caught up in all these bad habits through years of their upbringing. And here I think veganism is a great place to start: When going vegan you're no longer so actively contributing to the destruction of this fantastic planet and all the senseless violence against our wonderful animal brethren. If lifting that burden off your shoulders isn't spiritually uplifting, then I don't know what is!

And if you wanted to, there is a lot more you can do in this direction, of course. You can visit and donate to sanctuaries and nature reserves, and hang out with the animals there and elsewhere. Advocate for city birds. Feed birds in the winter! Anyway, I went off on a tangent, sorry!

First off, congrats!!
:clp:

I'm assuming that you didn't gain all that weight in a week. but weight gain is a common complaint among new vegans.

A lot of vegan meals are very heavy on carbs and if you don't burn them they are converted to fat. you might make some measurements right now and use them as a base line. Not just your weight but also your Body Fat. this is the best way
also the categories are skewed a bit. Ideally you want to be on the low side of normal.

I always recommend to people who are concerned with weight gain CronOmeter. It's a free app and website - they do have paid versions - but you don't need those features. There is a bit of a learning curve so you might want to check out one of the built in tutorials. Or just ask me. it's the best way to make sure that you are getting all your nutrients.

Dr Greger's Daily Dozen is also a good way to make sure you are getting all your nutrients. IMHO, it's very hard to meet your nutrient requirements without going over your daily calorie limit - without also exercising. Greger even includes exercise as a daily requirement.

One aspect of being an advocate for the animals is to be a healthy vegan. You want to be the Good Example. Not the Horrible Warning.
