Germany Terror - Xenophobic car attack

Unfortunately, Germany is in the news again after a 50-year-old German citizen tried to kill "foreigners" by plowing his car into crowds including children on New Year's eve.

9 people were hurt, one woman in critical condition.

The driver was arrested by the police, according to them, he only claimed that "foreigners were to blame for everything" in the interrogation.

This new form of terrorism is becoming more frequent. There is very little that can be
done as these acts are performed by lone wolves. They only need a car or/and a knife to kill innocent citizens.

We've already had our share in the UK and in France and the police say that have no power to prevent these crimes.

I noticed this year that virtually every Christmas market I have visited had concrete barriers and a few policemen with submachine guns visually present (which is something you luckily do not see that often in German daily life, except in airports)

According to police reports about this latest attack, the driver likely did not have any plan or preparation, but likely "snapped" and used his own car in his attempt to kill people, similar to the terrorist in Charlotteville.

There's been very little coverage of this incident in the U.S., compared to terror incidents in which the perpetrator is Muslim.

Same here in Germany.

There have been voices that, had the perpetrator been a "foreigner" or "militant", we would not be able to spend the day without hearing about it a dozen times. So ... not much.
