Went to Michaels and quickly remembered why I don't--I stared at all the colors stunned by indecision, and lack of preparation.
Nothing really spoke to me, and the multicolors weren't right. Well, If I was ok with spending more I'd be ok, but I wasn't.
@PTree15 -How much do I need for a vest? I ended up with 3 skeins of teal, 354 yards each

Is it worsted weight yarn? I'm thinking that should be plenty for a vest. It would be easy to add sleeves for a cardigan if you have too much yarn. It also depends on the stitch you use, as some stitches, like those with bobbles and other textures are yarn eaters, lol. I didn't keep track of how much yarn I used for my cardigan (worsted weight yarn), but the pullover sweater (size M, according to the pattern) I just made used about 1,250 yards of 3-weight yarn, so your yardage would track if it's a 4-weight.
Here is the sweater, and it actually fits! It was a striped yard, a mandala by Lion Brand. I only color controlled the sleeves, so the bottom ribbing has two colors. It's my first pullover!
