One of my first thoughts, after finding out more details about the Charlie Kirk shooting, was:

Wow, that sounds like a pretty good shot for an amateur with the equivalent of his grandpa's old hunting rifle (a Mauser with a telescopic sight and a bipod). He also managed to escape, and the police had almost no clues.

My first thought wasn't: Oh, how shocking and terrible, his family must be devastated.

Political violence including politically motivated mass shootings have become so commonplace over there in the increasingly less united states that it's no longer shocking, and Kirk himself had stated that the cost of some shootings every year was worth it so they could keep their sacred, God-given 2nd amendment (or something to that effect).

But yeah, it really must be tragic for his family, of course.

I am finding it increasing difficult to be nice on the subject. I am not quite intelligent enough to go into a debate and I do not like arguments. I like to be a happy, loving person. I am finding the big US VS THEM getting a big movement. I like to think we are all human and should care for each other, but again I am stupid. I am upset that in the beginning the big political people said it was the "radical left" when it was a young white boy who was very much right wing. There will be no apologies, just throwing the false blame under the rug.

It was disgusting how both sides were rooting for the gunman to be on the others ideology. The only correct response to this was to acknowledge it as a tragedy and how to move forward.
Kirk was a disgusting person. It was only last week that I heard him speak. The right is honoring him as a peacemaker who promoted freedom of speach, and honest debates. He wanted nothing but Christian nationalism modeled in the white patriarchal vision of his idea of "GOD" .
I listened to his wife commemorate him, thinking how lovely it is for people to find their soul mate, a partner who completes themselves and share goals and dreams. Kirk didn't want that for others, only for those like himself.
Just leaving this here to we don't forget--

Oh, and the right is still salivating over the fact his alleged roommate is transitioning, and calling the suspect a leftist.
Kirk is now officially their martyr
Should be interesting to see their reaction as the shooter's motives become clearer. Although, from what I've read so far, he was deeply into memes, Reddit and 4chan culture where people enjoy making statements with 7 layers of irony, so perhaps we will never really know for sure what his actual notices were.

I am so disgusted that the MAGA's are making that slime ball Kirk a martyr. The killer is a white boy from a gun-toting Mormon Republican family who was deep into the dark web. I am very sorry for his family and for Kirk's poor little children.

It's been claimed the shooter was a groyper, i.e. follower of Nick Fuentes. If that's true, then it might be difficult to turn Charlie Kirk into a martyr.

Well, I didn't actually know about the bipod when I went "wow", and I suspect the bipod makes it a good bit easier.

(I used to go to the shooting range back in my teenager years, but we used, I think, even older rifles: Krag-Jørgensen.)

I wonder how he knew his way around that university so well that he could climb onto the roofs etc. without being noticed, and find just the right spot where he had a clear shot.

Nick Fuentes is soooo much worse. Someone said he's taking over Turning Point.
The right is completely ignoring all truth. They've latched on to their narrative and stick together-unlike democrats who bend over to kiss azz and throw each under the bus

I generally try to avoid posting YT links in discussion threads but I'll make an exception here because this is short and informative. It explains so much about the memes referenced on the bullet casings:

the last line was particularily potent - "this is going to keep happening until/unless we find a better future for people"
Yes, although I'm not convinced it's completely true.

To me, this particular shooting seems to be the result of a conflict between two factions on the far right: The relatively small 'goypers' group' and Kirk's Christian nationalists. But perhaps such a conflict alone isn't enough to boil over into deadly violence? Perhaps you need desperate young men who have been let down by society as well?

Anyway, what scares me is that the orangeman & friends may be able to somehow plausibly blame the Kirk shooting on the Left, because the Kirk shooting is so difficult for normal people to comprehend due to the seemingly nonsensical meme references etc. and also because the shooter has refused to cooperate with the police to explain his motives.

I find it quite plausible that this psycho didn't HAVE anything close to a rational motive. The cats, rabbits, gerbils, and hamster I have adopted and known... hell, even the goldfishes I took in from my co-workers' pond... behaved more rationally than that.

About that free speech. How many people have you heard losing their jobs because of "inappropriate comments"?
The Cleveland chief of police was dismissed. A suburb councilman -- literally said "I've known many good people who've died. Charlie Kirk wasn't one of them...." and went on to condemn violence. He stepped down as it was clear he would be fired

It's time to be very afraid for the USA

Was watching a news clip this morning from Fox9, I believe it was the prosecution outlining the motive of the suspected shooter.

They highlighted that the shooter had a trans partner and his mother had said he'd shifted politically to the left in recent years. So, it seems the motive for shooting Kirk was because he spread hatred against trans people etc.

The orangeman & friends are going to have a field day with this. This was just what they wanted.

I heard this today, and my initial reaction was that, sure, an employer is responsible for their job and they should be fired--but then I remembered the hypocrisy :unamused:
Pharmacists who refuse to dispense physician ordered prescriptions. Government worker refusing marriage licenses. Bakeries that refuse to make a wedding cake. Graphic artists who won't make wedding invitations. All due to being contrary to their beliefs.
Yes folks, be afraid and be aware

Jimmy Kimmel, canceled--
I listened to his show at work today, it was nothing but the truth, and no hate involved
They want to end free speech. I wonder who will be next. I am terrified!
I seldom post anything political on Facebook but this Kirk as a martyr just makes me so mad. I shared a post that a friend had shared and started an argument between my brother Jon (who is like me politically) and a woman I grew up with in Minnesota. Then the person we have known as "peacefulveglady" put her Maga two cents in. I am done posting anything. These people's minds will never be opened.
