Have you bought (non-life saving/changing) products that contain animal parts (leather/bone/etc), but replaced/discarded the animals parts?

I’m trying to be a serious musician, with some singles out and an EP I’m hoping to publish in a month. There’s a guitar that I really like that would replace and upgrade my current favorite guitar, but it has a bone nut. This is something which can easily be swapped and discarded, and I already have one with a bone nut that I bought while I was vegetarian, before I even knew they could be made of bone. I never use that one and have yet to get around to replacing it.

I take prescription that comes in a gel cap, but I just mix it with coconut fauxgurt and throw away the cap (I would have to pay hundreds a month for the tablet version that’s not covered by insurance). I think this is obviously justified because that medicine has changed my life, buuuuut the guitar isn’t the same and I could get a guitar very similar to this one that doesn’t have a bone nut. I’m really leaning towards saying it’s not okay, I’m as strict as they come, I just want to know the opinions of others.

If you know someone who could use or like the bone nut I would say sure, but just to discard it seems silly and wasteful.
There are some medicines that shouldn't be taken without the capsule, so people would need to verify the safety of directly mixing with foods, but it's really just a personal purity thing, and doesn't impact animal welfare.
When I come across these kinds of situations I do like to let the manufacturer know how I feel, and suggest options

Hi - we are lucky here in Australia because we can buy vegan versions of just about any medications - we have cheaper medicine here . In the case of the capsule , l don't see anything wrong with just discarding it .. I feel that passing it onto a non-vegan is akin to enabling animal -eating .. We can't stop others from eating animals but we can avoid assisting them in that ..
Ultimately , it's your own heart that should guide you .. When facing a decision like this , ask your heart .. Follow your heart - try not to second-guess yourself - just go with the first heart-feeling .. Try not to let your thoughts interfere - it's the feeling around it that matters ..
We can never be truly certain of what animal products are sneakily in things , and we could twist ourselves in knots over it ... Or we can just do our best with our intentions and live our lives according to our ethical cores , living as ethically as possible .

Take care of your beautiful self ,
with love from Ruthie x

The guitar. Up to you, but replacing the nut is pointless. The damage is done on purchase. Is there no way you ask for a replacement part? (i.e. Like seats in a car - leather/fabric)?

As for the pills... Indeed. Not an issue here in Sweden as none would cost much and we don't need insurance. In your case I don't see the issue with taking the ones they give.
By the way, taking them with the capsule would make zero difference either. Again. The damage is done with the purchase... It isn't a bodily purity test.

(bold/italic emphasis mine) I gave your post above an "agree", but it deserves an "informative", too.
