I've been taking levothyroxine for my thyroid for a few months and it seems to be working. My doctor increased the concentration from .25 to .50 after a blood test and a few months. I had my blood tested last month and he thought it was doing its job so did not increase it again.
However when I got my refill it came with some brief instructions.
"Do not take antacids or products containing calcium. or iron within 4 hours of taking this medication.
I knew about the iron but didn't know or I forgot about the calcium. I always wait at least an hour before breakfast. Most days of the week I have hot or cold cereal with soy milk, which has calcium added to it. I've just asked my doctor if I Should stop having cereal with milk. I suppose I could just make oatmeal with water instead of milk.

In the meantime I know some of you also take thyroid medication. Can you suggest some breakfast foods without calcium.

Exactly how much calcium are you trying to avoid? Calcium is an essential plant nutrient so I imagine it'd be very difficult/impossible to completely avoid eating it.

I enjoy peanut butter with apples or on toast for breakfast, which a cursory google search shows to have <5% of of the daily recommended calcium intake. You may also be able to find other plant milks not fortified with calcium, or you can settle for lower quality milks made at home in a blender.

It's just till 1030 am. I can have calcium the rest of the day.

Good suggestions. Thanks.

Apple and peanut butter is a favorite breakfast for me, and I make oatmeal with water, flax, chia and berries
PB&J on wheat bread. Banana dipped in crushed nuts.

My husband has been on levothyroxine for several years. I didn't know about the calcium. He eats oatmeal often but we make it with water. He's not vegan/vegetarian so he has more options.

This feels hard to me.

Ok, so I discovered that the Trader Joe's soy milk that I buy for emergencies doesn't have calcium added. so that may be my what I use for cold cereal. And/or I can make oatmeal with it or with water.
and somedays just have a snack like jam and toast and have breakfast later.
Plus I already have bagel sandwiched in my rotation. so I can easily increase those.
At first I thought this was going to be hard. but it isn't.

When I reached out to friends who also take this me they also said that they set an alarm, keep the meds by the bed and then then go back to sleep. I can't do that. I already have a lot of trouble getting enough sleep.
