TV & Film Bill Cosby

These allegations lately have caught me by surprise. Do you think they're true?
Yes. Rape allegations are rarely proven false.
"The stereotype that false rape allegations are a common occurrence, a widely held misconception in broad swaths of society, including among police officers, has very direct and concrete consequences," the authors wrote. "It contributes to the enormous problem of underreporting by victims of rape and sexual abuse."

I have no idea whether the allegations are true.

It seems a bit unfair to the other performers in The Cosby Show to drop all the reruns.

An alleged rapist is the star of the show. Dropping the show is a good business decision.

More:
[W]e are left with six accusations of sexual assault: Tamara Green says that Cosby drugged and groped her in 1970. Beth Ferrier says that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1984. Janice Dickinson says Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982. Barbara Bowman says that Cosby drugged and raped her "multiple times" when she was 17 in 1985. And Andrea Constand says that Cosby drugged and raped her in 2004. Taken together, the public accusations span some 30 years and are remarkably similar in their detail.

I hate to say it, but I was always creeped out by the way he looked at/talked to Lisa Bonet, one of the actresses playing his daughter on the Cosby Show. I hadn't heard of these allegations against Cosby until the other day. :(

Is there a reason why Cosby isn't saying anything?
Because it will be nearly impossible to prove these allegations in our justice system unless Cosby opens the door and lets something slip.

Even today, if a woman is drinking, or with a powerful man, or is a stripper, or anything but a virgin walking home from Bible school and a stranger jumps out of the bushes, it is extremely difficult to prove a rape allegation.

Decades ago, women who were drugged and raped did not go to the police. If they did, they were told nothing could be done because they were drinking or couldn't remember anything due to the ghb. And that is why.

Would any of these be able to even go to court? I haven't been following it closely. Is the statute of limitations not up on them all?

In her own words:
Bill Cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story? - The Washington Post

" Back then, the incident was so horrifying that I had trouble admitting it to myself, let alone to others. But I first told my agent, who did nothing. (Cosby sometimes came to her office to interview people for “The Cosby Show” and other acting jobs.)

A girlfriend took me to a lawyer, but he accused me of making the story up. Their dismissive responses crushed any hope I had of getting help; I was convinced no one would listen to me. That feeling of futility is what ultimately kept me from going to the police.

I told friends what had happened, and although they sympathized with me, they were just as helpless to do anything about it. I was a teenager from Denver acting in McDonald’s commercials. He was Bill Cosby: consummate American dad Cliff Huxtable and the Jell-O spokesman. Eventually, I had to move on with my life and my career.

I didn’t stay entirely quiet, though: I’ve been telling my story publicly for nearly 10 years. When Constand brought her lawsuit, I found renewed confidence. I was determined to not be silent any more. In 2006, I was interviewed by Robert Huber for Philadelphia Magazine, and Alycia Lane for KYW-TV news in Philadelphia. A reporter wrote about my experience in the December 2006 issue of People Magazine. And last February, Katie Baker interviewed me for Newsweek. Bloggers and columnists wrote about that story for several months after it was published. Still, my complaint didn’t seem to take hold.

Only after a man, Hannibal Buress, called Bill Cosby a rapist in a comedy act last month did the public outcry begin in earnest. The original video of Buress’s performance went viral. This week, Twitter turned against him, too, with a meme that emblazoned rape scenarios across pictures of his face."

I think the allegations are likely.

I do have some reservations about trying a person in the court of public opinion being enough to take away his employment. In Crosby's case, the allegations seem strong enough, and he's probably wealthy enough not to matter, so I'm not concerned about this particular case, but as a general rule, shouldn't we wait until someone is convicted in a court of law before punishing them? Does anyone else remember Richard Jewell?

It might be a good business decision for the network, but I am not convinced that it is good for all concerned.

There have been serious allegations of sexual allegations(child molesting) against people like Woody Allen, yet the public is not in an uproar over Woody.

I thought perhaps the difference in the cases is that Allen only had one person making accusations against him, and that doubt was cast on the truthfulness of those accusations....
In February 2014, Dylan Farrow repeated the allegations in an open letter published by Nicholas Kristof, a friend of Mia Farrow, in his blog on The New York Times  ' website, describing how Allen allegedly sexually abused her in the attic in their Connecticut summer home while she was playing with her brother's train set.[129][130][131][132] Allen repeated his denial of the allegations, calling them "untrue and disgraceful,"[133][134] followed by an official response published in the New York Times.[135] Dylan's older brother, Moses Farrow, defended his father, and told People magazine, "Of course Woody did not molest my sister," saying that their mother had "implanted" false memories of child abuse into Dylan as a child "to pay him back for falling in love with Soon-Yi."[136] Dylan has denied that statement and stood by her allegations.[137][138]

Cosby had many women making allegations.

I don't know about Woody really....
