Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist and the longest-serving independent in congressional history, is expected to have a larger campaign kickoff event in Vermont in a few weeks.

“People should not underestimate me,” Sanders, 73, said in an Associated Press interview announcing his decision Wednesday. “I’ve run outside of the two-party system, defeating Democrats and Republicans, taking on big-money candidates and, you know, I think the message that has resonated in Vermont is a message that can resonate all over this country.”

Sounds like the first half-decent candidate in this race.

I've been following Bernie for quite a long time now. Perhaps one of the most interesting facts about Bernie is if you follow the money, his contributor base is mostly made up of worker unions.

Calling yourself a Socialist in America is not the most effective way to get votes.

Might as well call yourself a Nazi or an Atheist.
Yes, it would seem like an uphill battle. His political opponents would not hesitate to "expose" him as a socialist, though. So maybe by embracing the label, he removes part of their rhetorical power.

It sounds like income inequality is a big issue for him. If you got rid of income inequality, the birth rate would go back up. Does he have any idea how to address some of the other problems that weren't mentioned in that article? I'd likely vote for him even if he didn't, but it would be reluctantly. And how does he plan on addressing climate change?

I like Bernie, but his chances of winning the Presidency are about equal to mine, and I'm not even running.

I will be extremely surprised. Extremely.

Same! But in a good way.

He's getting really good traction and I hope it continues.

Also, he said he's not going to run against Hillary, so there's no fear of him taking away votes that could go to a Democrat if he doesn't become the Democratic nominee. The most important things right now are the primaries.
