Physical Exercise benefits of yoga

hello,
quite a lot has been written on yoga, it is definitely popular, however, what are the true facts of benefits of yoga, is it not just a healthy way of exercising or is it more then that?
 
I think some of the benefits have been exaggerated to unrealistic levels.

It is a form of bodyweight based resistance training that increases flexibility and encourages proper circulation.

Miracle cure for all of life's ailments? No.

Good for you? Absolutely.

I've found it wonderful for me. For my body and mind. I don't say that it'd have the same effect for everyone, but I do recommend trying it, just to experience that body awareness.
 
I did yoga for several months. It felt really good during the exercise but seemed to exacerbate joint problems/pain, particularly hips and shoulders. Felt great on the muscles in general.
