I have been avoiding knitted products and candles for 3 years,
as I assumed they were sheeps' wool and bees' wax.

I have recently discovered that the cheaper products are likely paraffin candles and polyester yarn,
similarly leather-look nylon belts and bags are generally the cheaper products compared to animal skin.

Somewhere in my upbringing or the people around me was an idea taught to me that products made from animals are premium.

Has anyone else found any money saving ideas since going vegan?

Paraffin is derived from petroleum and hence is toxic. I would steer away from any products containing this substance.

''Paraffin wax is commonly used to make candles and wax melts because it is generally cheaper to produce than soy wax. Since paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, coal, or shale oil, it has been found to contain known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) such as benzene. CNN reports that researchers at South Carolina State University found that melting paraffin wax-based candles emitted toxic toluene and benzene, while soy candles & wax did not.''

Polyester is also made of plastic and it also is harmful to the skin as it doesn't allow the latter to breathe.

I have always tried to be eco friendly but it's not always easy when on a budget. Little things make big changes but you also have to live within your budget. There is a Frugality section on this forum which gives plenty of useful and eco friendly tips. :) 👍

The myth that veganism is expensive is fuelled by many who make an intersection with veganism amd expensive ways of being eco-friendly..
