My father has been doing some amateur but diligent research regarding an article in The New Yorker magazine, from July 20th of last year. Fascinating and frightening stuff. :eek:

This is one hell of a detective story by Kathryn Schulz... except, unfortunately for us, it's non-fiction. I'll start another thread regarding the Yellowstone caldera soon....

And I thought the California / San Andreas fault line was the worst earthquake disaster waiting to happen to North America! This makes Portland sound a bit less attractive, I have to say!
 
Scary. I knew about the Yellowstone Caldera and about the general seismically-active area known as the Ring Of Fire, but didn't know about this subduction zone in the Northwest.

This gives me something else to worry about, in addition to what could happen of a strong solar flare or high-altitude nuclear explosion could do to the electrical power grid...
