New, Graphic Anti-Smoking Campaign

the initial reason for the ban was to reduce passive smoking..now they are extending that to remove people's choice to risk harming themselves, in the pursuit of a smoke.

That would be great as I can't stand cigarette smoke. Whilst I was in the park yesterday it smelt of smoke nearly everywhere as people sit there and smoke.

Yes, the idea is that it's not just to do with second hand smoke but that they want it to become 'abnormal' to see people smoking so it will potentially prevent children and young people from ever starting. I saw that the numbers of people smoking has dropped a lot over the years. I don't see many kids smoking in public today but I remember a lot of my friends smoked when we were on our way to secondary school.

I think if I had smoked when I was in my late teens it might have helped with social anxiety.....but I didn't want to damage my body.....might've well have now, in retrospect.

I'll be happy the day it's completely banned in public. It's not fair to non-smokers that they have to walk through a cloud of smoke, especially for those who have asthma or other respiratory problems.

Parents who smoke around their children, especially in cars with the windows up, should be charged with child abuse. It's one thing if an adult wants to pollute their own lungs, but it's sickening to see parents make their children breathe it in.

Council staff face work-hours smoking ban | Society | The Guardian

Now Nottingham council has proposed to ban staff from smoking even on their break times, including e-cigarettes. I think that is a bit harsh, surely it is up to the person what they do on their own break?o_OE-cigarettes are supposed to help people give up smoking so why would they want to prevent staff from using them?

The bit that made me laugh was that they are saying that smoking 'would be permitted during lunch breaks provided the employee takes off their uniform and is far from council property'. I imagine people stripping off their clothes and running off to have a smoke.:D

I used to lecture my friend about smoking until I realised that I was being incredibly annoying and hypocritical as I used to smoke occasionally myself. She has COPD now though as she can't seem to give up.:( My sister-in-law also found out recently that she has the condition as well although she gave up years ago, but her partner is a heavy smoker.

When I was doing demo work (handing out samples in the market), we had to take off our chef jackets when on break if we did anything where the public could see us, like ate a snack or went to use the restroom.

^ It's strange as I used to have to go to meetings at my local council for work and the staff I met didn't wear a uniform as they just wore normal office wear. It must be different in different parts of the country.

Smoking In Cars With Children Illegal Starting October 1, 2015

I think this only applies in the UK presently.
